Graduate Level Design Research Courses Carried out at UTEST
UTEST Product Usability Lab, being departmentally connected to METU Faculty of Architecture Department of Industrial Design, provides graduate courses on usability and user research theory and practice. Conducting reseach studies for Masters and PhD theses and providing the students with hands-on experience on user research are the main objectives of these courses.
These include current courses of;
ID531 MODELS AND METHODS OF ERGONOMICS
Methods of data collection concerning people. Methods of synthesizing data into ergonomically sound design concepts, prototypes and final design outcomes. Subsequent evaluation of designs in terms of usability and safety. Contains lectures, applied research and library research.
ID719 DIMENSIONS OF DESIGN FOR EMOTION
Definition of terms and concepts of design for emotion. Discussion on topics including emotions, affective design, hedonomics, user types, product qualities and evaluation procedures. Review of the state-of-the-art tools and methods, and data analysis. Design and conduct of emprical research projects by students.
ID 727 FUNDAMENTALS OF DATA ANALYSIS FOR POSITIVE USER EXPERIENCE
Review of basic concepts of the current issues in positive user experience. Basic data analysis techniques for exploring user experience. Review of qualitative, quantitative and mixed data analysis methods beneficial for design researchers. Coding and entering data, implications of data for user experience. Design and implication of data visualization. Review of reporting results for user experience.
